Why twitter can lick my nuts

Posted by OneGrumpyLumpy - January 6th, 2023

Hello worms.

After 3 weeks off the platform I've decided not to return to twitter, at least not for a few months. This is probably the most popular opinion in the center of the universe that is the United States, but Twitter is the best argument for mass-execution and imminent destruction of western civilisation. This has nothing to do with the man in charge and everything to do with the little Hitlers that use it.

I already know if I posted this there instead of on NG I'd get all these responses from addicts saying "yeah twitter sucks I hate it" which is complete bullshit. They can leave whenever they want and yet don't. The fact that they still use it daily when they supposedly hate Elon Musk SOOOO much is proof that they love it. I remember when he first bought the place and everyone said the platform was so good before he came along. Don't make me laugh. It always has been and always will be shit. The only difference now is you actually can remember the name of the guy running it.

I already know I'm gonna get that one asshole telling me "but you have so many followers!" and if you think I care about big number, you clearly don't know who you're talking to. Stop projecting your insecurities onto me. I have similar thoughts about Instagram too but it's slightly more tolerable. Slightly.

Even if I wanted to, the scroll bar is broken and registers as me clicking off so I can't post images, only save drafts. I don't care enough to find a fix so they can all kiss my ass. I don't apologise for shit. I have no respect for the platform or the invertebrates that use it. Only pity.

That's all. All of you go straight to hell.

Speak the truth brother!

"The only difference now is you actually can remember the name of the guy running it."
Much like SpaceX, my sides are in orbit.

RIP your Twitter account.
Wish I had the same determination, but NG is not great for posting sketches and blurbs

I apologize for writing basically way too much.

I don't really expect all of this to be read, So I'll say you have to do what you think is best if distancing yourself from social media is what you want to then just run. Get as faraway as possible.

I do want to preface it with, it's completely fair and valid to just not want to distance yourself from Twitter and social medias in general, these platforms are certain to brew hate and can bring out the worst in people. Not wanting anything to do with it is quite frankly a smart Idea.

But I also did want to say that a lot of people, artists and creators, use Twitter because they kind of have to at this point it's where everyone is. Twitter is as a big point of discoverability and how people send their audiences to other places like Patreon, Twitch, or whatever. Many artists and freelancers live off of commissions most of which get funneled through Twitter or adjacent sites. Twitter is where many people grow and build their audiences.
This isn't at all plus for Twitter, quite the opposite really. It's like a social monopoly, you either use it and grow, or don't and stunt your potential growth and it's quite terrible, if there were better options, people would be using them. Even just the statement of "Making a living off of Twitter" is absurd, it shouldn't need to exist. I for one do not get nearly the same amount of traction anywhere else, and I have never gotten a single commission elsewhere.

Not everyone uses or engages with Social media or Twitter the same, for many who work independently it really is just a crux of business, income, and communication, at least until they are able to grow to a point where they are more self sustainable.
It's completely fair to just disregard Twitter, and many of the people on it, but I feel a bit unfair to disregard everyone on there. I think it's completely fine to hate Twitter and still use Twitter, it's fair for someone to want the a site they may or may not use extensively to be better, or with how things currently are to just work at the bare minimum.
Again, I'm not attempting trying to change your mind or anything, just a different perspective I suppose, it's not black and white "You either love Twitter or hate it". Just my two scents, worthless really.

If you're confident enough to dump Twitter entirely, then for what you do you probably don't need it anymore, which in a way is kind of it's own mark of success.
I wouldn't be surprised if everything I said is disregarded, and that's fine quite frankly, I'm just some idiot on the internet, who cares.

I don't disagree, but at the same time if people are going to treat their art as a business/brand, they shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket. It's called diversifying. Certainly twitter as an all-purpose micro blogging site will bring in the big numbers, but it's not the only place where such a thing is possible. Instagram is easily the next best thing if you don't mind bots, but there's plenty of those on twitter already. I find it especially funny when people make a big show of "leaving twitter" and then never go through it with. It's the same song and dance every year.

At the end of the day it's not about "success" for me. I've already accepted that I will never reach that peak again and I don't care. If it means crawling back through the filthy sewers, I'd rather die in the fresh air.

Certainly
I did fail to mention diversifying, "not putting all your eggs in one basket", I believe I meant to but at that point I already typed so much and by then was like "He's not going to read this."

Regardless I wish you the best going forwards I suppose.

Nah you're good. I read it lol
I shall. You too
